Sazerac

New Orleans in a glass. Rye whiskey, absinthe, and Peychaud's bitters. One of the oldest American cocktails and still one of the best.

Ingredients

  • ·2 oz rye whiskey
  • ·1 sugar cube
  • ·2 dashes Peychaud's bitters
  • ·1 dash Angostura bitters
  • ·Absinthe (for rinsing the glass)
  • ·Lemon peel to garnish

Method

Rinse a chilled rocks glass with absinthe and discard the excess. In a mixing glass, muddle the sugar cube with bitters. Add rye and ice and stir until chilled. Strain into the prepared glass. Express a lemon peel over the top and discard (do not drop in).

Pour slowly. Sip slower.
